It's interesting to find the new vigour flying around in the country for some really baffling political issues. One has been the Narmada, Sardar Sarovar dam issue. Medha Patkar single-handedly brought the whole issue back into focus and forced India to take notice. Her fast inspired some lousy politicians to fast themselves to amend some of their tarnished image. Still, the issue was boilng again and was hot enough for people to come out of their slumber and fly down to affected places at least for the sake of it. Her death would have caused quite a furore among the Junta. Probably, she saved their faces and vitims' faces by ending the fast. The victims must have lost their sole hope and saviour had her fast turned a capricious turn.
But, all her efforts seems to have gone in vain. nothing more than a minor scuffle for the Big guyz. She ended her fast and they are back to build the dam. Nobody will fast anymore, instead feast on the bloods of more and more victims.
Another has been the "Reservation Issue". Prospective doctors braving Lathis, water charge and tear gas protesting the reservation bill has been quite an inspiration. Rang de basanthi started off the year sensationally, lot many seem to tread the same footsteps. Reservation has been rampant among various institutions. This way casteism seems to gulp down a major chunk of the insitutions. Although the seemingly "welfare" gestures never trickles down to the needy, all it ends up doing is to put at stake some more meritorious souls. But no!!!!!! India does not need to acquiesce left-overs offered to them, seems to be new Manthra. So will it be "INDIA AWAKENS TO A TRYST WITH DESTINY". Let's work for that rather than hoping anymore.
